Welcome to My World

Dr. Abbas Zavar is a futurist physician–scientist with over two decades of experience in medicine, digital health, AI, and health information technology. His career spans clinical practice, digital health consulting, and clinical AI science, demonstrating his tech-savvy expertise and strong dedication to transforming healthcare.

He holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD), a Master of Public Health (MPH), and a Master of Health Informatics (MHI) from the University of Toronto, supplemented by specialized coursework and fellowship training in AI in healthcare (Harvard and University of Toronto).

A firm supporter of Personalized Medicine (PM), Abbas describes PM as delivering the right clinical intervention—diagnosis, prevention, and treatment—to the right individual at the right time. He advocates this vision through various roles:

  • Personalized Medicine Thought Leadership: Advancing personalized medicine in Canada through evidence-informed leadership—publishing, speaking engagements, and convening cross-sector stakeholders to translate AI and clinical data science into practical, ethical, and system-ready models of care, building resilient bridges among clinicians, researchers, industry, and health system partners to accelerate the transition from reactive services to proactive, data-driven, and personalized medicine at scale.
  • Clinical AI Scientist & Digital Health Leader: Designing responsible pathways for deploying AI-enabled solutions at scale, focusing on aligning governance and operational readiness among clinicians, vendors, and stakeholders, with an emphasis on the clinical value proposition, workflow integration, patient safety, and the responsible use of technology. Combining frontline clinical judgment, applied clinical AI science, and health system implementation expertise: grounding AI strategies in real-world care delivery, and rigorously assessing AI-enabled tools through evidence-based methods and implementation-focused analytics.
  • Academic Educator & Mentor: Designing and delivering applied training across Canadian institutions (University of Toronto, Toronto Metropolitan University, and George Brown College), while mentoring International Medical Graduates (IMGs) and Internationally Educated Health Professionals (IEHPs) to build practical capability in digital health, clinical AI, and responsible healthcare innovation.
  • Researcher: Grounded in clinical practice and driven by a forward-looking Personalized Medicine vision, leading research initiatives that examine both the promise and the practical challenges of implementing Personalized Medicine in real-world care, building the foundations of a “Personalized Medicine Ecosystem” that can translate clinical knowledge and patient data into actionable insights—enabling more proactive, individualized prevention and care while remaining rigorous, evidence-informed, and implementation-ready.
